Inspiration and a shake up

I'm thankful for things like Pinterest and blogs because they provide some much needed inspiration when I'm feeling stuck.  So get ready!  Things are going to start popping up on here!

tortillas and Mexican lasagna

I made tortillas from scratch yesterday, but they are pretty bland.  It was just a basic flour recipe. I used it because it called for vegetable oil while many call for lard. Any suggestions of a really good recipe?  Maybe I have to use lard? I did see that item at the store the other day.  At the time I thought, "Who uses lard these days?" Apparently people who want to make tortillas. 

Today I am making Mexican lasagna with the tortillas, and I'm hoping the blandness is fine because there are so many other flavors in it.  We'll see!  Our backup dinner is salad...

I Did make better choices today! The kitchen is clean!

There is a continual struggle for me to keep up with the day-to-day clean up in order to get to the more fun 'making stuff' that I would really rather be doing.  In order to motivate myself to get the everyday cleaning done I don't let myself work on projects first, but I'm always playing catch up and not ever getting to the projects, let alone Finishing them!

Just another one of those part of life I'm still figuring out..

making things

I was reading about making creme fraiche today.  Which lead to reading about making cheese, finding books about food you can make from milk, posting Facebook statuses about not knowing how to make any of these things...

It's pretty humorous to me how I look for ways to make things more complicated sometimes.  I'd like to try making cheese instead of just buying it in the store.  I often hang my laundry outside, I am planting a garden, I bake bread without a bread machine. 

The catch is - my house is a mess. Prioritizing isn't one of my strengths, but it's something I need to work on.  I should have been putting things away instead of searching the internet for new things to try. 

Tomorrow is another day.  My morning is booked and will start early [I should really be in bed..], but tomorrow afternoon I can make better choices than I did today.  I can choose to clean up around here!

Carrot seeds did get planted today.  So that's something!  haha..

we're in

I am tired, but we are in our house.  And all of our things are chaotically scattered around us.  I'll post pictures soon.  Hopefully it won't be too long before I can post new, different, prettier pictures!

and we have the keys!

Instead of having their regular Home Group meeting tonight, my husband and some high school boys are going to move boxes.  We ARE moving!  I'm watching some Do-It-Yourself home improvement shows this afternoon to prepare for what's ahead.

We signed papers today.  However, apparently in Washington that doesn’t mean you have possession of the house.  I should start over...

We are buying a house.  We were supposed to close last Friday, and today is Tuesday.  We’re still in the old house and living out of boxes.  This is not fun.  I don’t have any cooking utensils.  I have become aware of how important cooking utensils are in my life.  Back to possession of the house.  I think we might be getting the keys tomorrow. 

You know, the up and down uncertainty of this whole thing doesn’t help me get anything ready for the move.  I had almost nothing packed until Thursday.  I haven’t called about the chicken permit [yes, we’re planning on having chickens, but more on that later].  Also, I can’t bake anything, sew anything, or finish the hat I was knitting.  

I’m ready to move already!
